TOP 10 MOST POPULAR WEDDING TRENDS IN 2022

2022 will bring the busiest wedding season in history and with that a lot is at the stake to make sure your wedding is as unique and as “you” as possible!

Do you know what it takes to make your wedding a stand-out event of 2022? Check out some of my most popularly observed trends for 2022 in my blog below!

Quirky and unique venues

All-inclusive corporate wedding venues are still at the height of their popularity due to their all-round hassle-free offer; however, we’re seeing a big move towards more urban/post-industrial, rustic or unusual venue choices amongst wedding planning couples.

I now work with couples who will not consider a hotel – period! Couples more often now than ever before are keen to break with tradition and offer their guests a stand-out once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Exclusivity is also often a priority, no matter how large or small the wedding is! As such I am observing more micro-wedding exclusive-use wedding venues appearing in my searches!

Micro-weddings

Micro-weddings and romantic elopements will continue to be a popular choice for many couples!

After nearly two years of the travel ban, more and more couples are eager to experience something new and exotic and while they’re at it, get married at the same time!

This is either the couple alone or with their immediate family and witnesses – a holiday and a wedding celebration at the same time.

First-look photos

This is a very popular trend across the big water already, however, if I was to ask a couple about this in the UK a few years ago, nobody would consider this seriously – it almost seemed like a no-go taboo topic.

Nowadays as attitudes change, I am more often being asked about first-look or pre-ceremony photoshoots and the logistics of that.

In order to accommodate for something like this, we need to ensure that it happens at a time or place where your other guests can’t see you – this is to ensure we can still offer them the ceremony reveal moment, but also giving you enough time for romantic and intimate photography.

Some couples choose to do their wedding day photoshoot pre-ceremony to shorten the time it takes between the ceremony the meal to accommodate for all photoshoot moments. This also means you can start your ceremony later.

Have you considered this option for your wedding? Give me Y for YES or N for NO in the comments below– let’s see what everyone’s consensus on this is.

Bride’s speech / Maid of Honour Speech

Something that is a popular custom in the Scandinavian countries is only now becoming a trend in the UK!

It is not only interesting, but the division between gender roles in weddings are finally changing, which is a change that is very much welcome and embraced amongst the couples and their guests!

To be honest, I never fully understood why you would choose an incredibly uncomfortable with public speaking Groom or knowingly choose an incredibly inappropriate Best Man to perform a speech when you could ask a lot more comfortable and confident female counterparts for the role?

What are your thoughts on the matter? Let me know in the comments below.

Drinks Reception Entertainment

A bit of background music in the time you’re away for your post-ceremony photoshoot is no longer the only aspiration for wedding couples and their guests!

Drinks receptions are now a lot more activity-based – be it a quiz, outdoor games, bouncy castles, face painting – you name it.

Some photoshoots can take up to 2 hours and your guests are looking for things to do – if you fill this time with activity-based and fun things to do, your guests will not even know where the time has gone, but if you leave them with a glass of fizz for two hours and nothing to do, it feels like hours and they’ll instantly start looking for somewhere to sit, they’ll be cheeky peeking into your big surprise Wedding Breakfast room to kill the time.

Embracing the Great Scottish outdoors

If there’s one good thing that’s come out of lockdown– we’ve finally started appreciating the beautiful Scottish outdoors more!

Therefore, if your wedding is between May to September, I trust you will want parts of your wedding celebrations to take place outdoors!

I see a lot more couples asking for outdoor ceremonies, drinks reception outside, evening marshmallow toasting around fire pits – this is the vision, right?

Let’s not forget that if you’re planning for a wedding in Scotland, you will need to prepare for a contingency to this plan, but at the same you should absolutely embrace the outdoors wherever you can! There’s nothing more uplifting for the atmosphere than sunny outdoors!

Anniversary Receptions

The reality of lockdown meant that many of the weddings restricted by lockdown will be celebrating their anniversaries BIG!

So don’t worry if you’ve missed out on a seat for the wedding day, you might be in for an even bigger treat with an anniversary reception!

As a couple, you might want to re-enact your big moment with an affirmation of the vows ceremony in the presence of all your guests to make it official to all those important to you!

Are you one of the couples who decided to celebrate twice? Give me Y for YES in the comment boxes below.

Drag Queen / Entertainment Acts

Since the reappearance of Drag Race UK on the BBC 3, I am more and more often being asked about Drag Acts for the entertainment part of the evening reception.

It’s all about offering those very unique, light-hearted and fun entertainment experiences that are being sought after nowadays!

Whether it’s a Drag Act, celebrity DJ appearance or even Red Hot Chilli Pipers shaking up your evening reception – those are the pieces that will make your evening reception memorable.

Two-piece wedding dress

Hitched reports that two-piece wedding dress searches increased by 176% this year!

Imagine, if you got a two-piece wedding outfit, it can transform easily from a daytime look to a nighttime look – for instance, start the ceremony with a long fitted skirt train and changing this to cigarette trousers for your nighttime bonanza on the dancefloor.

Two outfits used to be popular, so this is a sustainable spin on this idea, and it’s been mostly reintroduced in the boho-style outfits.

Would you consider a two-piece dress for your special day? Give us Y for YES and N for NO in the comments below – let’s settle this debate in a friendly exchange!

Earthy or bold colours

I feel like in the past two years fashion has gone on a roller-coaster of truly vibrant developments.

In 2022, I see my couples either going for some earthy colours in their designs including dried flowers and pampas grass or a complete clash of rich and statement colours!

Remember clashing colours can make spectacular designs and clash here isn’t used to downgrade this design method – the colour game is so important in wedding planning.

If you haven’t watched my interview with colour-matching expert Tanya on YouTube, you should do so sooner rather than later and have fun with your colours!
